The Pink Panthers had to work harder than usual but they got the job done by winning their tenth consecutive Ladies Eights carnival, which was held in Cootamundra on Saturday.
The Pink Panthers played Maddy’s Team in the final at Albert Park.
Against some tight bowling by Maddy’s Team, they restricted the defending premiers to just 1/41. Christine Lott top scored for the Pink Panthers with 18 Maddy’s Team were always a couple of runs behind the run rate and finished with 1/34.
Madeline Twyford who captained Maddy’s Team batted through the innings to finish with 18 not out.
Maddy’s team, which is made up of schoolgirls in years 10-12 are edging closer to taking the title as a lot of their girls play in a regular cricket competition.
For the Pink Panthers while they won another title, a couple of their older players are becoming less dominant.
Eight teams played in the carnival that saw a team travel up to Yass, other players travelled from Canberra, Hillston and Wagga. Four teams played at Albert Park, while the other four teams played their first two rounds at Mitchell Park and completed their day by playing their final round at Albert Park. After enduring a wash out in 2019, Covided out in 2020, we were lucky we dodged the rain in 2021, the players were very thankful to play in fine and warm conditions on Saturday.
Saturday’s Ladies Eight’s carnival was the 17th conducted by the CDCA.
The players really enjoyed the day and were very thankful that the CDCA make time and effort to put the carnival on each year. A number we need to thank – To the Cootamundra Gundagai Regional Council Parks and Garden staff who had the grounds in pristine condition.
Peter Louttit who scored for the majority of the day at Albert Park. Dennis Elphick who umpired all the matches at Albert Park.
Finally, a big thank you to all the eight teams that played.
