The Cootamundra Show is fast approaching, coming up on the third weekend of October.
President of the Cootamundra Show, Geoff Larson, had a message for the community in the lead-up to the show.
“It’s great to be back in business after missing two shows through Covid restrictions.
The Committee has continued to work behind the scenes to get our Show back on the road.” “
The participation of young people at our show is a highlight and we welcome them back this year with open arms.
Junior judging and Parading are major events and winners go on to compete at Royal Show levels.
“These young people inject plenty of life into our Show which is greatly appreciated.
Work continued through the Covid period, and a new building was erected in the livestock section, thanks to Darren Absolon for a wonderful job. A kitchen, storeroom and an office is now available for use in this area.
Thank you also to Steph Cooke, our local MP for her support over the years.
“The horse stable also has a roof which was another project carried out in recent times. Many people have asked “Will the Show be on this year?” And when I answered “Yes”, their comment was “I can’t wait”.
Please come and join in this year. I am sure there are events happening to please everyone.
I look forward to welcoming you to our 2022 Annual Show.” Heather Bush, Secretary of the Cootamundra Show, is excited about getting the show back on the road.
“We’re really lucky we got some NSW Government funding that allowed us to have local organisations and businesses have stands at the show this year.
The NSW Government are paying for all the of the local organisations to have sights on the showground,” Heather said.
“We’re having a new show and shine competition.
We haven’t had a show for a while due to Covid that Josh Black from Blackies Power Equipment is running and he’s got lots of categories in it.
“We’re also going to have motorised esky races and the Men’s Shed has put together some billy carts for us.
We’ve got all our normal entertainment but our big entertainment this year is the FMX motorbikes which do the big jumps.
“We’ve got a lot of community organisations taking part, they’ll have stalls and stands.”
Due to Covid the last two years, the Cootamundra Show hasn’t gone ahead, but 2022’s edition of the show will be the 130th installment.
“We’re excited to be back. The shearing is going ahead, they’ve got a lot of prize money for their speed shear competition, so that should attract a fair few people. It’s very entertaining to watch. Yard dogs will also be back which will be going all day.
“We also have a magician and fairy entertainment for kids during the day.
All the normal sideshows and animal nursery and it’s really big.
The Armstrong family do that and they do a really good job.
There will be lambs and puppies to pat, which is all free.”
