RUGBY enthusiasts will be excited to know that former Wallaby great, Phil Kearns, will officially open the new Cootamundra Rugby Clubhouse on Saturday, May 8 2021. The official ribbon cutting will be at 1.30pm on the Saturday and will be followed by the Cootamundra Junior Rugby Bear’s match, before the Cootamundra Tri-Colours men’s team take on arch-rivals Harden Red Devils at 3.15pm. Phil Kearns AM played 67 tests for the Wallabies between the years of 1989 and 1999, in which time he captained Australia 10 times and was a member of both the 1991 and 1999 Rugby World Cup winning teams. At this stage, Mr Kearns is planning to watch both games of rugby in Cootamundra on May 8, following his official duties, and will be available for a meet and greet following the main game. The Cootamundra Tri-Colours are only three training sessions away from their first game of the season against Temora Tuskers on Saturday, 17 April at the Cootamundra Country Club Oval. Kick off 3.15pm
