After the Government announced a lockdown which at this stage will last seven days, all sports around Coota have been affected.
With the ever evolving COVID situation around the state, it is starting to look as if local sport will follow in the footsteps of the Greater Sydney com-petitions and be cancelled for the year.
Many competitions are either approaching finals or have started their finals series with some of the Cootamundra teams a possibility of contesting the trophy.
We are hoping sport continues, so here at the Times we have decided to carry on with sports news and inform you how the teams are progressing.
In Soccer, all Strikers teams look as if they will be missing the finals series sitting in 10th place on the ladder.
With Football Wagga announcing an extension to the 2021 season, all teams can still record at least one win for the season.
But all teams are showing improv-ment since the start of the season with that showing through results.
In AFL, the Cootamundra Blues have missed the finals series after finishing in 7th position.
The season for the Blues was filled with mixed results with the team finishing with 5 wins and 6 loses.
With a number of washout rounds as well as the lockdown in Canberra the Blues played just 11 games this season compared to other sides who played 13 which hampered the sides finals chances.
With a number of players from last season moving on, this year the new generation came through.
In one game this season the team fielded 9 players under the age of 21, the youngest being Sam Gash at just 15 years of age.
It’s safe to say if these players stick around that the future is looking bright for the Blues.
The Cootamundra Tri Colours have made it to the big song and dance in the OilsPlus South West Cup and were due to play rivals, the Harden Red Devils this past Saturday.
After some of the players involved in both teams were forced to isolate after having to isolate after being in Canberra Central West Rugby decided to postpone the Grand Final to Saturday 21st August.
At this stage there has been no official announcement if the Grand Final will be going ahead or not.
The Tri Colours have had a great season losing just two games in the regular season and finishing in second place on the ladder.
Coota sealed a home grand final coming from 17-0 down to beat the only team that were ahead of them on the ladder, the Harden Red Devils 21-20 in the major semi final.
The Cootamundra Bulldogs have impressed in their first season in the George Tooke Shield competition.
Currently the first grade is sitting in 3rd place on the ladder with 8 wins and 3 losses.
At the start of the competition the Bulldogs were on a 6 game winning streak.
The Bulldogs are almost a certain chance of making the finals sitting 1 point ahead of the Harden Hawks in 4th place and 3 points ahead of the Binalong Brahmans in 5th.
The Bullettes have also impressed in their first season sitting in 2nd on the ladder with 10 wins and 2 losses.
The Bullettes started the season with a 7 game winning streak before being beaten in round eight by the Harden Hawkettes.
Finals are a certainty for the Bullettes sitting 2 points ahead of the Boorowa Roverettes in 3rd and 6 points ahead of the Crookwell She Devils in 4th.
The Under 17’s Bulldogs look as if they are going to miss the finals currently sitting in 6th place on the ladder with 1 win, 1 draw and 7 losses.
This is a great effort for the team who have stepped into a very strong competition for the first time.
What a great year it has been for local sport in Coota, lets hope that the seasons for these sports can continue after the lockdown period.
