Like many shows before them, the Cootamundra Show Committee have made the unfortunate decision to cancel the show for the second year in a row.
Cootamundra Show Secretary Heather Bush said the uncertainty around the COVID crisis was the reason for the cancelation.
“We last had a meeting at the start of August and weren’t sure if the situation was going to get better or not.”
“We thought we would leave it until the first week of September to make the final call. Since then the daily case numbers have gone up in Sydney and around regional NSW.”
The Show was due to be held on October 15 and 16 but Heather and the committee thought it would be hard to hold the community event even if lockdown had lifted.
“As a community organisation we didn’t want to be the ones to be responsible of bringing in people from out of town that might affect the health of the community as well as our committee and volunteers.”
The committee also took into account that all the other shows both before and after them had cancelled.
All aspects of the show have been cancelled including the horse events but Heather said there may be smaller events held in the future.
“If the conditions allow us to we may run some smaller events for the competitions which progress towards the group finals.”
This may include competitions such as the NSW ASC Fruit Cake competition as well as the young judges events such as cattle parading, fleece judging, sheep judging and more.
“If conditions allow us to do hold these events we might have a supplementary show at sometime before the Sydney Show, we probably won’t be looking at doing that until January.”
“We will hopefully hold these events so people can progress to-wards the state final.”
“The Horse Committee is hoping to have a horse show in November, we are hoping that the state will have started to open up again.”
Heather and the committee would like to thank their supporters, all of their sponsors and volunteers for their continued support.
“We hope that we can bring a show back to Cootamundra next year.”
The Cootamundra Show Committee will now focus on planning their 2022 show.
