The death of our Patron and Bowling friend, Arthur Frederick Ward, has saddened all our bowlers and members of the Country Club.
Artie not only played bowls but served in every capacity for the Country Club. A life member for many years he also served as District President for two terms, V/P for several terms and club committee member his entire bowling career.
Artie’s charitable heart was well known throughout the bowling fraternity. On behalf of the club, we will miss you, old mate.
Arthur’s funeral service will be held in the Uniting church on Saturday next 26th March at 11am. All bowlers, men and women, are requested to wear their club uniform for a guard of honour. Back to bowls and only one game to report for last Friday. A triples game with Geoff Hagan, John Malone and Ron Johnson copping a lesson from Roy Cleveland, Charlie Willis and Peter Rasmussen. After winning 10 ends each, Peter’s team were too good, winning 20-12.
Sunday was to be the first round of the District Challenge competition and a team from Harden was drawn to play Country Club at Coota. However Harden failed to muster a team to play us, therefore a social day developed and two games of triples were selected.
Play was conducted on the green named in Arthur’s honour, one he shares with stalwart volunteer and long serving bar person, the late Ivan Lerve. A minutes silence was held in Arthur’s memory before play.
The results of the play was Kerry Ryan, Eric Thorburn and Graham Worboys defeated Ned Miller, Charlie Willis and Graham Davidson 23-12 and the second game saw Geoff Hagan, Peter Rasmussen and Billy Manwaring had all the answers against John Malone, Scott Wilkinson and Ron Johnson, winning 30 shots to 6. Billy commented after the game that Johno’s team had no luck at all. It happens quite often in bowls, that’s why we play the game.
