Tom Miller passes to Chris Maher against Harden.
In what was a rough weekend for Cootamundra sport, the Bulldogs and the Bullettes were both eliminated from the finals for the 2022 George Tooke season.
The Bulldogs travelled to Crookwell to take on a red-hot Crookwell Green Devils side. The game marked the second time in three weeks that the two sides clashed.
When speaking to trainer Ned Miller earlier in the season, he commented on how difficult it is to play in front of the Crookwell faithful and just as importantly, in the Crookwell weather. The Bulldogs felt the force of both last Saturday and could not overcome it, going down to the Green Devils 32- 4.
Though the defeat was disappointing, the club and Cootamundra locals have plenty to be proud of. At the start of the season, there was a worry amongst the club that they may not have even been able to field a team, with the help of some younger Bulldogs and some returning faces to the club though, they were able to field a team and a very good one at that.
There were plenty of young Bulldogs this year and as years go on they’re sure to continue to progress into even greater footballers. The town will be hoping that with their progression will come more success for the team. The Bullettes were victims of a devastating loss vs the Boorowa Roverettes last Saturday when they lost 14-12 in an extra-time thriller.
Though like their male counterparts, it’s a tough pill to swallow being eliminated from the finals, the ladies can keep their heads held high knowing how far they made it and what an impressive 2022 campaign they managed to put together.
Reflecting on the season there were plenty of highlights for both sides, such as when the ladies beat grand finalist Boorowa 14-22, or when they pulled the Gunning Roos apart like a new chew toy 56-0.
The men had just as many big games, also beating a grand finalist side when they won a nail-biter versus the Bungendore Tigers 22-20. Their biggest win came against the Binalong Brahmans when they scorched them 86-8.
The Times will catch up with both coaches next week for an in-depth look at the Doggies season this year.
