Family focus as Country Club swings into spring

Cootamundra Country Club are welcoming spring with a gourmet Father’s Day lunch (Dads pay half-price) this Sunday, 4 September. The Father’s Day special lunch with a gourmet menu including a roast will start at midday and has already attracted substantial bookings.

The lunch kicks off an active post-Cod revival program for the Club, which will see a great night of dining and entertainment on Friday September 16, and construction of a new outside deck and children’s playground. The dinner and dance on Friday fortnight will be a top-class dinner (menu in ad) with an alternate menu, followed by an Australian pub rock cabaret presented by the Blackbird Duo, a gifted husband and wife duo who have performed in leading hotels in Europe, the US and Asia and on cruise lines.

They will present a high energy three-hour performance of iconic Australian pub rock anthems, with a few international classics thrown in, and there’ll be lots of dancing geared toward a 20’s to 60’s demographic (even older for those totally cool 70 somethings).

Club Chair Gwen Norman says another important part of the focus on families is free meals for children on Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the Rusty Bistro. “Our most important focus is providing a great location for families in Cootamundra and surrounds to come to for entertainment and sport,” Gwen said.

“If the rain will let us, we’re building a fenced children’s playground with shade sail, complemented by a six-metre overlooking deck for outside dining where parents can keep an eye on their children in the warmer months.” The outdoor deck will lead out from the Club’s Brian O’Malley room, on the southern side of the Club building, and will enable children to enjoy the outdoors rather than being confined inside. As well as the oldest and one of the best golf courses in NSW, the Cootamundra Country Club provides bowls and croquet.

A very successful weekend with the Cootamundra Country Club Scramble on Saturday 27th and the Cootamundra Open on Sunday 28 August.  Winners of the Scramble with 57 net were Doug Caldwell, Tony Hall, James Dunk and Jason Steven-Jones.

The Cootamundra Open A Grade and Overall winner with 70 was Paul Deep, B Grade winner Dave Garness with 83, C Grade winner Lyal Twyford with 102.

Over sixty players enjoyed a weekend of sunshine.  Visitors from Temora, Tumut, Bonnie Doon Golf Club, NSW Golf Club and Gungahlin Golf Club also attended.” The Blackbird Duo who will perform at the Club on Friday 16 September are two of Australia’s leading vocalists, Shane and Kath Tapper.

Shane has been guest entertainer for the past 12 years with cruise lines and at US and Asian five-star hotels, and Kath has had over 10 years of professional singing experience in pubs, clubs, functions in Australia and Europe.

The couple, who live in the Southern Highlands, formed Blackbird Duo to share their passion for pub rock, and cover a mix of Aussie classics from Chisel and INXS, to Noiseworks and Screaming Jets, with a little Crowded House and a heap of International rock dance classics.
