Berkery’s century highlights Bulls win By Pat Kerin.
A magnificent century by Matt Berkrey has steered the Cootamundra Ex-Services Bulls to a win Boorowa. Berkrey blasted 102 runs in very quick time, which put the home side in a very strong position.
The Bulls finished with 8/187. At around 5.00pm umpire Jeff White abandoned the match as the rain had taken its toll.
Boorowa were 7/117 from 27 overs, meaning that the Bulls had won with better run rate. With light rain falling, the Bulls were keen to bowl at least 20 overs as 20 overs constitutes a match.
In the draw, Boorowa and Cootamundra Ex-Services Bulls were drawn to play each other in consecutive rounds.
So, with Boorowa’s home ground still out of action due to the very wet outfield, the grass is two foot high in places, they returned to Albert Park, which they loved.
Albert Park looked a million dollars, so pristine with the outfield much faster than last week.
22 fours were struck. Both teams agreed to start 30 minutes early at 1.00pm. Again, Boorowa won the toss and chose to field.
The Bulls were in trouble at 4/23 and then it was Matt Berkrey’s turn to bat.
The talented left- hander quickly advanced the game, belting his way to 102.
His innings included 11 fours and five sixes. His knock was from only 84 balls, which is a strike rate of 121.
Incredibly, Matt had only one net session prior to this knock and did play on the previous Saturday.
Surprisingly at 26 years of age, this century was only his third. However, this 100 was a real game changer! Opener Nick Louttit batted with authority scoring 20.
Best with the bat for Boorowa was their opener Matt Canellis who smashed his way to 39 from 34 balls.
His knock included four fours and two sixes. Nine bowlers had a trundle for the Bulls.
Their best was Jordyn Ballard who captured 2/7.

At Nixon Oval in Temora, Bowling Club Tigers defeated Stockinbingal. Temora batting first were bowled out in the 36th over for 171.
When rain stopped at the end of the 20th over, Stockinbingal were 4/68. Temora were ahead on run rate and were declared the winners. In Temora’s innings, Joe Oliver top scored with 38 while skipper Brady Oliver made 35.
