Kristen Byrne lining up a conversion.
The Cootamundra Rugby League Club gave the people of the town a great start to their weekends with both the Bulldogs and Bullettes blowing out the Burrangong Bears in their respective codes.
The Bullettes opened up the night in tremendous fashion, running riot over the Burrangong Bears in a first half that saw them put up 44 points and leaving the opposition shouting mercy.
Unfortunately for the Bears, the Bullettes showed no mercy, by running the Bears into the ground, stomping all over them and thrashing them right back to Jellystone Park.
The win also puts coach/halfback Kristen Byrne down as the leading points scorer for the entirety of the George Tooke Shield League Tag competition.
Byrne kicked 12/15 conversions on Fri day night along with setting up a plethora of tries. The Times had the chance to talk to the Bullettes superstar about the teams win and how much weight she puts on being the competition’s top scorer.
“Credit to Burrangong for playing out the full game, obviously it’s their first year back in the George Tooke and it’s always going to be a difficult first season in a tough competition and to play the full game out in a big loss is a big sign of how professional they are,” Kristen said.
“Our slow start cost us last week, so this week we wanted to come out and start a lot better and we were able to do that, another focus was on getting more possession, last week against Harden we had four possessions in the entire first half and this week we did well at flipping the script, tiring the Bears and controlling the game.”
The Bullettes face a Bungendore side who has played well below their standards this season, despite the Tigerettes being 0-2 Kristen expects a competitive game.
“You can never underestimate Bungendore, they’re one of the premier sides of the competition and every time we’ve played them they’ve been a tough opponent and we expect nothing different on Saturday.
“No doubt that the girls would’ve gained plenty of confidence and experience both winning big and also playing under the lights which was pretty special, playing at home will be a big advantage also.”
Player’s player went to Brooke Thompson.
