Emily Potter 2023 Coota Showgirl

Emily Potter.

You could hear the excitement from the Coota Airport all the way from the Cootamundra Showgrounds where the annual show stunned spectators and show goers alike. Rides, food, craft, livestock competitions, shows and performances made the Coota Showgrounds feel like a wonderland of attractions. The official opening at 3:30 pm was conducted by Farmer Wants a Wife star Brad Jones and his wife Clare before moving onto the showgirl awards.

The results were 2023 Cootamundra Showgirl – Emily Potter, Runner-Ups – Anna McClintock and Madilyn Robinson. Little Miss Showgirl – Sophie Knewstub, Runner-Up – Adelaide Wray. Junior Showgirl – Kiera Cross, Runner-Up – Shannon Lewis. Master Stockman – Connor Taylor, Runner-Up – William North. Emily Potter was pleasantly suprised receiving the award, still not believing it after receiving it. “It’s a great experience, there’s more to it than it looks. There’s a lot of work everyone puts into it and it was great to see it from another perspective,” she said. “I’m so grateful to have their experience and grateful to be here next year and years to come. “I’m still shaking.”

Vice President Geoff Bush could be spotted at the show, enjoying the sights and the work the committee put in paying off. “The crowd looks like it’s building up. There were a lot of people watching the woodchop. A lot of people like to come to the Showgirl announcement too…..when you look at the cars parked on the day, you can tell it’s a good day,” he said. “The Show is about showing the world what Cootamundra does well. All schools support it every year, it’s a bonus for the kids who can have something displayed and bring their grandparents to have a look. “We’ve put that much infrastructure into the ground since the 2019 bushfires when the Government really got on board how important it is to have areas in case of emergency for your pets and horses. It had to be good enough to house them so we got better facilities to house all the livestock.”

Mr Bush said it was hard to choose just one of his favourite attractions. “When you organise it, everything looks great. The support from all the sponsors and volunteers, without them the show couldn’t run.” Speed shearing, wood chopping, yard dogs, dodgem cars, showbags were all the rage at the showgrounds. Kids with cones of ice cream to cool them down during the 30-degree day still wore huge smiles even with the heat. Plenty of locals and visitors from near and far entered the gates ready for a day of fun and all left satisfied. As the name implies, the Coota Show knows how to put on a show.
