Blackman claims seventh Club Championship

Cootamundra Country Club Champions Steve Johnson, John Blackman, and Rowan Bradley.

 

Saturday October 21 saw the conclusion of Cootamundra Country Clubs 2023 Club Champi- onships and wasn’t it an exciting finish.

Fantastic spring weather helped attract large fields in what saw record numbers for this year’s event with over 85 starters across three grades.

Yet again it was the in-form John Blackman who took out this year’s A-Grade Championship.
Blackman is now a seven-time Champion after previ-ously winning in 2001, 2016-2019, 2022.Blackman held off a fast-finishing Ben O’Loughlin and 2021 champion Simon Lienesch to win by four shots.

 

In the club’s B-Grade Championship, it was a tight one- shot victory by Steve Johnson over Mark Ballard. Steve Capping off a great year of golf after winning the clubs ‘Founder Cup’ single Matchplay event earlier this year.

 


In the C-Grade Championship, it was back-to-back titles for Rowan Bradley.
In a great month for the young local, Rowan recently welcomed his second child mid-championships.

In the Junior Class, Jake Williams won Scratch, Nett, and finished second in C-Grade behind Bradley to com- plete a great first up club championship debut.Eight-time Club Champion, Peter Annetts won the club’s Vet Trophy.
