The Coota Picnic Race Committee held a second race meet in the vein of assisting the Young Picnic Race Club after it was found Young were unable to hold their event.
The Committee had only just completed their regular meeting which didn’t have any horses run at Coota on April 6 due to track conditions and within two weeks decided to push ahead with another meeting. They did so for the community’s benefit and for the Jockeys, Trainers and Owners.
Cootamundra will also host the Melbourne Cup later this year in a big win for the hardworking community with just 37 stops across the globe.
Di Williams said, “You had to put a submission in and we were lucky to get it here, we are wrapped.”
The race meeting was a cooler day as it was heading towards the start of winter in June, however, it brought in a crowd who thoroughly enjoyed the day and there was plenty of horse flesh on display as they thundered down the track.
Di said, “We had great fields and they were all impressed with the track and the meeting.”
The committee ran the entire day themselves doing the gate, bar and bbq.
“From Racing NSW point of view the track was in really good condition and it was about giving the trainers a place to run their horses. People are paying to train their horses so they have got to run.”
The next race meeting in Coota will be held in October and it will be run by the Coota Turf Club which holds a TAB event.
Di said, “It’s been a really long year with different things popping up.”
The hard working committee will be making it known via the Times when the Melbourne Cup will be in Coota on its tour.
The committee does an incredible job and they should be commended for the hard work and efforts that they all put in.
