Cootamundra Lions Club Christmas Carnival Getting Closer

The Cootamundra Lions Club Christmas Carnival and Fireworks have been a staple date on the Cootamundra calendar. On November 30 at 5:00pm at Fisher Park, what better way to kick off the last month of the year than with a spectacular fireworks show.

If you come for the fireworks, the dachshund dash, or just the atmosphere, you’re for sure in for a great time.

Peter Lott has been a driving force behind the Carnival for a number of years and tells the Cootamundra Times that things are coming along well.

“We kick off at 5pm and we have local schools coming and putting on performances of Christmas Carols. There are market stalls, food, and drinks.

There will be some amusements and we finish with a fireworks spectacular.

“The best thing for the fireworks is the venue, it’s second to none because you are right there next to them. The Dachshund Dash will be running again and the community is welcome to get involved.

There will also be a chocolate wheel as people love coming to win a ham on the chocolate wheel.”

The Race That Stops the Kennel: Coota Dachshund Dash

The Cootamundra Dachshund Dash will test the fastest sausage dogs in the region at the Coota Lions Club Christmas Carnival on November 30.

The race is sure to get plenty of laughs as the adorable pets test their speed.

Tara Robinson of Cooper Street Animal Rescue said it is a fun event for the family. “We usually host it later in the evening about 7:30pm as it can get pretty warm. It’s a fun family event while also raising money for the Cooper Street animal rescue at the same time to go towards all the animals that we rescue and give medical care to and find new homes for,” she said.

“The Cooper Street animal rescue in Cootamundra takes in small animals that are in need of finding new homes or under certain circumstances if their owner can no longer look after them, we can take them on and help re-home them.

“A lot of them quite often need medical care which we provide – food, shelter, water, enrichment, love, all those things and we cover all of those costs as well.

She said everyone has a good time during the dash as it’s very chaotic.

“Previous years we have been able to get some decent prizes for the winners as an incentive to take part and that was all through donations.

“This year we have a few things but not as much as we normally would and I think that has a lot to do with everyone being a bit strapped for cash lately.

“At the end of the day, it is not about the prizes, it’s about having fun and that is what we are about and we are still supporting the animal rescue.”

“It’s a really nice community event towards the end of the year.

“If any of the Dachshund owners would like to enter in the Dachshund Dash please give us a call on 6942 4100 to register their interest and register their dog so that we know how many we have got on the day.”
