Who is pulling the Strings?
The infamous and embarrassing debacle which was the collapse of the Wallendbeen bridge, followed by more than three years since it fell and where a temporary bridge was constructed in its place, has now culminated in that temporary bridge being damaged to the point that the bridge is no longer viable for use.
An accident earlier this week saw 1500 litres of diesel spill from near the top of the bridge when a truck hit a guard rail.
Large vehicles are now being asked to detour to Cootamundra on the Olympic Way before cross-ing back to Stockinbingal where they can continue on the Burley Griffin Way.
With TFNSW arguing with locals over the design of the bridge and its location and the notification that land would be compulsory acquired to realign what should never have needed to have been built in the first place, beggars belief.
It’s been one cock up after another with this bridge and it’s time to start asking those who hold the purse strings and the people who are employed by the state in high paying roles, what the hell is going on at Wallendbeen.
When people in the bush feel neglected, it’s because they have often been pushed to the limit. That neglect on this bridge is now palpable.
Shame on this government for their inability to get what if had occurred in Sydney, would have been fixed within weeks, if it threatened to hold up our city cousins and their daily commute. As Derryn Hinch said. Shame, Shame Shame!
How much more can the people of Wallendbeen and the motorists take when it comes to the bridge which will celebrate 4 years in March since the useless piece of rubble fell over?
Built during WWl, The bridge could have fallen on a passenger train or freight train causing death. Who knows, the way it’s going, it still could!
