New Team At Reins To Revamp Coota Turf Club

The recent Annual General Meeting of the Cootamundra Turf Club (CTC) saw a ‘changing of the guard’ at the Executive level. Well-known local racing identity, Jeffrey Bristow, was elected President, taking the reins from outgoing President Greg Ewings.

“The club has recently experienced a turbulent period over the past 18 months. Membership and volunteer numbers are down in past years, and our club structure is now under revision. The race track workload presents ongoing demands; as a new turf club committee we too have our ‘Everest’ to climb, said Jeffrey Bristow.

“It’s time for me and other community leaders to step up and assist in rebuilding this club to what it once was proud and proficient. CTC is integral to the great heritage, spirit and racing image of the Cootamundra town and the racing industry here in the NSW Riverina district.

The Cootamundra racecourse is amid some major upgrades. The grandstand refurbishment is underway with construction commencing in the first quarter 2025. The major hurdle for the CTC committee is to have floorboard leakage and the major structure beams repaired for the Picnic race meeting set down for Saturday 26th April next year.

“The grounds surrounding the track need continued ongoing maintenance. Several out-buildings require a coat of paint and minor woodwork repairs, it’s an ongoing challenge. The club administration and several ‘hands-on working bees’ at the track over the summer months will be the big task for club members to tackle in the immediate future” said Jeffrey.

On the positive side, the recent rainfalls delivered over the past 90 days to the region has the turf still green with the track overall in excellent condition. The CTC Executive Committee brings a wealth of experience to the table.

Local Veterinary nurse, Kace Devlin, takes on the vice president role; Cootamundra accountant, Craig McTavish, continues in his 15th year as club Treasurer, and a new resident to the town, Mark Lee, steps in as Secretary.
