A big weekend in Cootamundra saw over 3000 people descend on the town for the annual Coota Beach Volleyball Carnival with a record 193 teams entering the carnival.
The weekend kicked off on Friday with the All-Schools Beach Volleyball Carnival with over 600 students from schools across the region participating.
Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC), staff were busy from Monday 10 February setting up the 10 temporary courts in Murray Street Cootamundra, spreading 900 tonnes sand, erecting fences and crowd seating.
The clean-up started directly after the last games were completed on Sunday evening.
Transforming Murray Street from a giant beach volleyball venue to a through street, remained the focus for CGRC staff until Tuesday 18 February.
450 tonnes of sand were re-moved from the site for Council use on top dressing sports fields. The sand will be spread over Nicholson Park, Fisher Park (Oval) and Bassingthwaite Oval as part of Council’s ongoing maintenance and will create a safer playing surface.
Motorists and pedestrians are urged to maintain caution whilst in these areas as truck and machinery movements will be increased during the top dressing and spreading works take place.
