Coota Ready For Temora in Hedditch Cup

Coota stalwart Josh Purtell will be looking for a big game against Temora. The Cootamundra team is – Joel Pearson [Capt] Josh Bradford, Joey Pall, Oscar Roberts, Nick Holt, Harvey Holt, Matt Brown, Riley Meale, Paul Bean, Jack Caldwell, Josh Purtell and Luke Berkrey. The umpires are Jeff White and Peter Stimson. The match at Albert Park commences at 10:30am.

The next Hedditch Cup match will be against Temora at Alfred Park in Cootamundra at 10am. The Coota lads will be out to keep their cricketing prowess high and as the birth-place of the Don, Coota cricketers always lift when needed to get the win.

The Times caught up with Josh Purtell to discuss the match.

He said, “It’s a 55 over match and it was originally the rules in Hedditch Cup and they’ve just kept the original rules, which is a bit different to every other competition.

“It’s 55 overs and pretty much test match cricket rules, which means you can pretty much do what ever you want. You can bowl as many overs as you want.

“Last week against Junee one bowler bowled 20 overs straight and there’s no fielding restrictions. You can have every-one on the fence, you can have everyone in close, where in normal cricket there’s always different rules. You can only have two people in certain positions and only two people outside the circle and stuff, so this is just more open slather, just some-thing a little bit different. Coota slayed Griffith and then knocked over Junee and the mixture of the Stockin-bingal men with the Coota men is paying dividends.

“We got the Cup off Temora last year. It was a bit of a grudge match. We went over to Temora and we won it. It was our first challenge in a couple of years. Our Rep cricket had gone into a bit of a lull point. We went over there and we had a hit with a combined Stock and Coota side and we haven’t looked back since. This will be our fifth game in a row.

“It’s the same side as last week except for David Garness, who is unavailable and I think Josh Bradford comes in. I think we have one or two bowlers too many, so we’ve lost a bowler, but we’ve got a batsman to come in.

“We have regular cricket against Temora on Saturday and Hedditch Cup on Sunday. Temora will be coming over two weekends in a row, but they will be a different side.

“For the Hedditch Cup what generally happens is all the people who were born in Temora, who live in Temora, but play First Grade cricket in Wagga, they can still represent Temora, so completely different sides from Saturday to Sunday.

Go Coota!
