The picket fence that surrounded Barry Grace Oval in Wallendbeen was destroyed by flooding. Funding has been approved to replace the fence with work starting in early February.
Residents of Wallendbeen will be thrilled to see the erection of a new picket fence around Barry Grace Oval. The picturesque Wallendbeen Sports and Recreation Ground was subjected to flood damage in a flood event that hit the area in 2022. The white picket fence that surrounded the oval within the precinct took a direct hit and was destroyed.

Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) has been liaising with Wallendbeen Sports and Recreation Committee with on-site meetings and has been waiting on approval for flood funding from the Office of Local Government (OLG), to start the replacement of the fence.
This funding has now been approved and a contractor engaged to start the work, which is expected to begin in early February.

CGRC mayor Councillor Abb McAlister said he was delighted the work would commence soon and the fence would be replaced.
“The Wallendbeen Sports and Recreation Ground including the Barry Grace Oval are well utilised by local cricketeers and the Wallendbeen population, the picket fence reinforces the area’s association with cricket and is seen by thousands of travellers every week as they pass through the village. There are often people camping in the vicinity and those stopping for some time out and a walk at the rest area. I’m pleased that the funding has now been approved and our teams can get on with the job of replacing infrastructure lost during that flooding event,” Cr McAlister said.
