Bullettes Continue to Establish Dominance Amongst Group 9

The Cootamundra Bullettes continued to show great ability on Sunday, with an emphatic 36-6 win over the Albury Thunder. The win catapults the ladies into third on the ladder and has them in a promising position to play finals football.

One of the catalyst of their fine return to Group 9 is superstar youngster Amarli Kelleher, who sits second amongst the competition’s leading try-scorers.

Bulldogs coach Lauren Connell believes her side can be pushing for the Grand Final this season.

“Our tries were all sorts of team tries, a lot of backing up, which was good. We’ve been working on a few things throughout training and putting that into the game, which was good to see. I think that helped get a few points on the board.

“They’re strong. Both comps have strong teams, and it’s good for us. It’s mixing it up, playing different people. We are on our first round of everyone, so it’s good to see what we are up against. All the teams are very strong.

“No, I fractured my ankle in round two against Tumut.

“They originally said six weeks. I had an MRI yesterday, but I’ll go get the results of that sometime this week and then fingers crossed. It’s only a couple more weeks left.

“It was just a bit of a freak accident.

“So I am coaching, but then my uncle, Michael Slater, is here.

“I was on crutches for a little bit, but I’ve ditched them now, so it’s good.

“I think there’s a lot of respect, like both ways. Because he’s come from the outside in, he’s seen things that the girls weren’t used to, I guess, but they appreciate and understand his way of coaching, so it’s been good.

“We had one of our recruits, Georgia Pinney, who scored, I think, two. She was good. Nellie Ward got chucked in the deep end when I got injured. She’s been working hard, and on the weekend she stood up and did a really good job, which was good to see.

“We are currently third on the ladder.

“I think there were 16 rounds to get through, and we’ve played four.

“This week will be tough against Brothers, but we’ll see how we go.

“Yes, they’re strong. I think they’re probably sitting on top.

“They’re a strong side, they have been for years. It will be a good test for the girls.

“It was always going to be tough for them, and I think they knew that, but their results in most games don’t represent how they played. They played well and strongly throughout the game. The score probably doesn’t reflect the game itself.” Connell said about her male counterparts.
