BIG DRY BRINGS ROADSIDE GRAZING
Due to prolonged dry conditions across the region, Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) has received a growing number of requests from local primary producers seeking Roadside Grazing Permits. In response, Council is working closely with Local Land Services (LLS) to assess and issue these permits as quickly as possible to support graziers during this challenging time.
CGRC and Local Land Services (LLS) must assess the details of each application to determine the impact of grazing to the roadside and if the activity will affect planned roadworks or Biosecurity weed control activities before a permit can be issued.
Local graziers are encouraged is to apply for a permit to Council, completing the necessary criteria on the applications. Council will consider the application, ensuring it meets with the conditions.
Council will then forward the application to LLS for determination.
Conditions may be placed on the application, or it can be denied.
The process is intensive, with a number of staff and departments within Council and the LLS required for input. Usually, the process is completed within three working days. Every endeavour is made to issue a permit as quickly as possible.
The permits cover CGRC managed roads and road reserves and allows for stock to be on the roads and roadsides under signage and supervision by the permit holder.
Motorists are advised to be aware, look out for stock signs and take care when using roads with stock grazing is in progress.
