Cootamundra Combined Probus Celebrates Forty Years of Fun and Friendship

Members and Guests at the Family Hotel.

Recently, Cootamundra Combined Probus Club members celebrated the Club’s fortieth anniversary of its foundation in 1985. Members were joined on the day by guests from Cootamundra Ladies’ Probus and Yass Probus Clubs. A celebration lunch was held at the Family Hotel, topped off by the cutting of our Birthday Cake, provided by Mel Smith. A great afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed by all present.

Probus operates internationally and is quite active in Australia with a large number of groups across all States and Territories under the umbrella of Probus South Pacific, which provides administrative support, publicity and promotion, as well as insurance coverage for members undergoing Club activities.

Cootamundra Combined Probus Club was formed as an initiative by Cootamundra Rotary Club in 1985 and incorporated in NSW the same year. Originally catering to retired, or near retired, PROfessional BUSiness men, the Club later opened its doors to welcome female members, thus providing better engagement with local couples. It aims to attract those in or near retirement, to make new friends, explore new interests and connect socially with others in the community.

Each meeting usually has a guest speaker who talks to the members and answers questions on their topic. Past speakers have included Police, Ambulance and Fire Services, Meals on Wheels, Dementia advocate and author Isabel Baker and group members with interesting tales to tell.

Meetings are held at 10:00am on the fourth Tuesday of each month (except December) in the Stephen Ward Rooms at the Cootamundra Library. Additionally, most members meet on the second Tuesday of each month at a café in Cootamundra for morning tea, with occasional trips further afield to Stockinbingal, Junee etc.

New members and visitors are always welcome, so come along and join us. Contact us at Cootamundra-CombinedProbusClub@gmail.com or leave a message on 0484 523 499 if you’d like further information.
