On July 15, at the Cootamundra Golf Club, the Cootamundra Lions said farewell to the year past and “bring it on” to the year ahead. The Coota Lions Club have been busy with their wood raffle and getting some of the early steps done for their Christmas Carnival. Rod Ball will take the helm as President for the coming year.
Ruth McCarthy, Secretary of the Cootamundra Lions, was proud of the “Successful year the Lions Club had. We had a lovely night. I think everybody enjoyed themselves. The Incoming committee were all happy,” she said.
“Forty-one people attended. We had people from not just the Cootamundra Lions Club, but also from Young, Boorowa, Junee, and Coolamon, all local Lions and their partners. The event was held at the Golf Club. We enjoyed a nice baked dinner. We had a mixed entree of various little Chinese nibbles, and we had lovely rice. It was very good.
“A few jokes from various people entertained us. The first Vice District Governor was our guest, and she inducted our new committee. It was a very good night. “We are looking forward to our big one, the Christmas Carnival and the Fireworks display.
“We just had a very successful wood raffle. We were very happy with that. One of our elder members organises all our raffles, as he’s been doing it for several years and even at his age, he’s terrific. So that’s good.
“We encourage anybody to come along and join the Lions Club, because we’re a great organisation. “In the last financial year, we donated $11,250 to local organisations and $2,800 to local schools. It’s quite an achievement for a small club to be able to raise that money and put that amount of money back into the community. All funds raised by Lions Clubs are donated back. None of the money we earn through fundraising is used for administration. Everything’s donated back into the community.”
