The 2025 annual ‘Cootamundra Cup’ will once again be held on the first Sunday of the October long weekend, at the Cootamundra racecourse.
Turf Club officials are busy with final preparations for what is sure to be another colourful day of horse racing on the Riverina spring racing calendar.
Coota Club President, Jeff Bristow, said, “We have the grass track shaping up to be one of the best racing surfaces in years after the recent rains across the southwest region of NSW.
“The turf club didn’t miss a drop on the edge of town, and the grass is thriving thanks to the warm sunny days three weeks out from the big event”.
Prize money for this year’s Cup sits at $32,000 plus a BOBS Silver Bonus up to $9,625 to eligible horses, which should attract healthy nominations from as far as Wyong to Wangaratta and Kembla Grange to Wagga Wagga.
The Cootamundra Cup will be run over 1600 metres with total prize money for the eight-race TAB card just under $230,000.
“Along with several new local sponsors, the club hopes to have the VIP marquee overflowing again this year at trackside’ said Vice President, Kace Devlin, who has been around town chasing supporting sponsors for the event.
“It’s always been a tough slog for this club as we have to compete with the NRL Grand Final that evening, there is a few parties around the countryside that afternoon! However, we are about the sunlight hours, and punters and families love to dress up and enjoy a day out at the races and it is the first day of daylight saving for 2025.”
‘Fashions on the Field’ will be another attraction to the day, along with a special treat for the youngest generation of complementary Face Painting.
Main gates open at midday with an entry fee of $20 per person, under 18 complimentary with an adult. TAB and Bookmakers operating, hot food and beverage facility on track, cash and card welcome with most vendors. The community shuttle bus will operate from the Coota Post Office at 11.30 am with return trips back to town after the last race.
