Coota Club Bulls Stamp Authority with Massive Victory Over Grenfell Blues – A Grade

Coota Club Bulls 1st Grade delivered a commanding and comprehensive victory in Round 4 of the SWSCL A Grade 2025/26 season, routing Grenfell Blues by an emphatic margin of 147 runs. The one-day fixture, held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, saw the Bulls execute a near-perfect game plan, beginning with a formidable batting display and concluding with a devastating bowling performance that shattered the Blues’ run chase.

Hamilton Anchors Formidable Bulls Total

Bulls captain Joel Pearson won the toss and elected to bat first, a decision that immediately paid dividends as the team posted a powerful total of 4/229 from their allotted 40 overs. The innings was built on solid contributions through-out the top order.

Openers Joseph Pall and Scott Meale established a good foundation, with Pall scoring a steady 39 off 69 balls and Meale providing a more brisk contribution of 35 off 32 balls (Strike Rate 109.37). However, the true momentum shift came from the middle order, spearheaded by the anchor innings of Liam Hamilton.

Hamilton displayed exceptional maturity and timing, crafting an unbeaten 77 off 77 deliveries, including 8 fours and a six. His ability to maintain a strike rate of 100.00 while wickets fell around him was crucial in setting the imposing target. He found an aggressive partner in James Smith, who finished the innings with a stunning cameo. Smith smashed 21 not out off just 10 balls, including a four and a six, finishing with a remarkable strike rate of 210.00, proving in-strumental in maximising the final overs.

Grenfell Blues’ bowling attack, while persistent, lacked the necessary penetration to stem the flow of runs. Jaxon Greenaway was their most successful bowler, claiming 2 wickets for 56 runs, while Dylan Forde and Luke Beasley took one each. Their efforts, however, were insufficient against the well-marshalled Bulls batting lineup.

Blues’ Run Chase Derailed by Early Wickets

Chasing 230 for victory, the Grenfell Blues’ innings quickly collapsed into disarray. The team was bundled out for a mere 82 runs in just 20.3 overs, a reflection of the unrelenting pressure applied by the Bulls’ bowlers and fielders. The only Grenfell batsman to demonstrate fight and skill was Jackson McLeish. Coming in at number three, he managed to resist the barrage, top-scoring with 48 off 58 balls, an innings that included 5 fours and a six. Unfortunately, the rest of the line-up failed to support him.

Openers Bailey Edwards (2) and Harrison Starr (1) were dismissed cheaply, and a steady stream of wickets meant McLeish was fighting a lone battle. Once Josh Purtell bowled McLeish, the resistance was effectively over.

Collective Bowling Performance Seals Victory

The Coota Club Bulls’ victory was sealed by a superb collective bowling effort, characterised by tight economy and disciplined wicket-taking. Captain Joel Pearson set the tone with an outstanding spell of 6 overs, conceding only 16 runs and taking 1 wicket, earning an excellent economy rate of 2.66.

The wickets were distributed widely, demonstrating the depth of the Bulls’ attack. Riley Meale was highly effective in the power play, securing 2 wickets for 28 runs from his 6 overs. The fast bowling pair of Josh Purtell and Matthew Brown each chipped in with a wicket, with Purtell proving highly economical. The late-innings clean-up was completed by Tristen Beaumont-Gillett, who quickly claimed 2 wickets from his 1.3 overs, and Paul Bean, who also managed to take one wicket.

The fielding was sharp, highlighted by four catches taken by wicket-keeper James Smith and a direct hit run-out by Liam Hamilton, rounding off a truly dominant performance that sends a strong message to the rest of the SWSCL A Grade competition.

Bulls Stamp Authority Over Mavericks in SWSCL B Grade One-Day Clash

The Coota Club Bulls 2nd Grade delivered a commanding performance to defeat the Mavericks Senior Mixed Murringo Mavericks Cricket Club by 60 runs in a crucial SWSCL B Grade One Day fixture played at Albert Park on Saturday, November 1st, 2025. The victory was a testament to the Bulls’ strategic batting and clinical bowling attack, which effectively suffocated the Mavericks’ run chase.

First Innings: Ismay Anchors Bulls’ Total

Having won the toss, Bulls captain Luke Ismay opted to bat first on a pitch that offered good pace and movement early on. The decision paid dividends, though not without early resistance from the Mavericks’ attack. Ismay was the cornerstone of the Bulls’ innings, displaying patience and control to amass a superb 69 runs off 104 balls. His knock, which included six boundaries, was vital in stabilising the innings after the early fall of James Reimer (7) and Gus Smart (8), both victims of Mavericks captain and star bowler Peter Jolliffe.

Jolliffe proved to be the Mavericks’ most effective weapon, tearing through the top order with remarkable figures of 3 wickets for just 19 runs from his eight overs, a miserly economy rate of 2.37. Despite the pressure applied by Jolliffe, Ben Piffero provided a vital injection of momentum, scoring a quick-fire 31 runs off 28 balls, before being caught by Shannon McKinney off the bowling of Jack Evans.

As the innings progressed, the stage was set for Tony Reece to provide the finishing touch. Reece batted with maturity and aggression, finishing 44 not out from 46 balls, guiding the lower order to a competitive total of 7/186 in 40 overs. The Bulls’ disciplined batting ensured they utilised their full allotment of overs, setting a challenging target of 187.

The Fall of Wickets showed the partnership breakdowns were managed well, with the last two wickets (Dylan Vivian and Aaron Lewis) falling after Ismay, ensuring the anchor had done his job.

Second Innings: Mavericks Stumble in the Chase

The chase for the Mavericks Senior Mixed Murringo Mavericks started poorly and never truly recovered. They were eventually dismissed for 126 runs in 34.2 overs, falling well short of the target. Openers Shannon McKinney and Robert Flynn were quickly dispatched for just 5 and 4 runs respectively, putting the Mavericks immediately on the back foot. The loss of McKinney was particularly telling, bowled by Harry Simons without managing a boundary.

Skipper Peter Jolliffe (37 off 64) and Oscar Taylor (33 off 52) attempted to rebuild the innings, sharing a vital partnership and demonstrating good application. Taylor, in particular, looked to accelerate, finding the boundary rope four times. However, the partnership was broken by a relentless Bulls bowling attack. Simons returned to dismiss Jolliffe leg before wicket and clean up Taylor, effectively decapitating the Mavericks’ middle order.

The Bulls’ bowling was a clinic in control and consistency. Harry Simons led the charge with a fantastic spell of 3 wickets for 21 runs from his eight overs. The late-innings collapse was engineered by the magnificent all-round performance of Tony Reece, who tore through the tail, claiming 4 wickets for a mere 10 runs from his 6.2 overs. Reece’s economy rate of 1.57 was exceptional and proved to be the critical difference in snuffing out any lingering hope for the Mavericks.

Benjamin Piffero supported with a tight spell of five overs, conceding only 12 runs at an economy of 2.40. The combined pressure from the Bulls ensured the Mavericks could not sustain the necessary scoring rate, resulting in a 60-run victory for the home side.

League Overview and Next Week

This victory provides a solid boost to the Coota Club Bulls 2nd Grade as they head into Round 5. Their next fixture is scheduled for Saturday, November 8th, against the Criterion Bin Chickens at Albert Park.

The Mavericks, meanwhile, will need to regroup quickly. They face the Temora Shamrock Leprechauns in an upcoming match, hoping to turn around their form and convert strong individual performances from players like Jolliffe into a collective team victory.

Other Round 5 fixtures include the Harden Hornets Senior Mixed taking on the Temora Exies Renegades, and the Burrangong Cubs facing the Grenfell Blues B Grade.
