Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Peter Bascomb to guide and oversee the organisation’s transition process as work progresses toward the proposed demerger.
This appointment follows consideration of a number of highly capable and experienced candidates. Mr Bascomb was selected due to his extensive leadership background, proven record of organisational renewal, and strong capability in managing complex structural change.
Since commencing with Council, Mr Bascomb has already hit the ground running. He has begun coordinating the early stages of the transition planning work, meeting with staff, and establishing the framework needed to progress the demerger in an orderly and well-structured manner.
Mr Bascomb brings an exceptional level of experience to the role, with a distinguished career in local government leadership spanning more than two decades. He has served as General Manager or Chief Executive Officer for several councils in regional New South Wales, including Snowy Monaro Regional Council, Palerang Council, Tumbarumba Shire Council and Balranald Shire Council.
His background also includes consulting, information technology, and senior roles in organisational development. He is widely recognised for his strengths in strategic planning, financial management, negotiation, stakeholder engagement, community consultation and guiding organisations through periods of significant change.
His experience working in politically sensitive and uncertain environments will be invaluable as Council navigates the next phase of the demerger process.
Mr Bascomb holds tertiary qualifications in Science, Computing and Business Leadership and is an accredited Company Director through the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Council welcomes Mr Bascomb’s expertise at this important time. His depth of experience and structured approach will support Council in progressing the transition planning with care, transparency and a focus on achieving a good and fair outcome for the community.
