Carols on the Grass is on Sunday, 14th December, commencing at 5.30 pm with a barbecue, face painting, children’s activities, before they begin communal Christmas carolling, singing Christmas at 7:00 pm.
Sister Kathy Hodge said, “It’s on the grass in the Sacred Heart Central School grounds, and it’s presented by Sacred Heart Parish, supported by the Combined churches, and we call ourselves the Combined Churches 2590.
“The evening is to bring the spirit of Christmas into our town and give people an opportunity to come together and reflect upon what Christmas means.
“It is also one of our major fundraisers for supporting and buying materials for special religious education. We do a little collection, and we do the barbecue for that.

“It is a casual event, and a nice time to bring the family along, to sit and take some time out at this busy time to relax and think about what Christmas is all about and also to be able to just share time, reflecting upon the meaning of Christmas and attempting to put, if you like, Christ back into Christmas.
“People might like to bring along a rug or their own chairs. There will be some provided. They can even bring a picnic tea, but there will be a barbecue.
“I would just like to thank the community, the Cootamundra community, and especially the church communities, for supporting these events over such a long period of time. The other thing is it’s known beyond Cootamundra. There are some other towns nearby that used to have the Christmas luncheon, and they don’t anymore. Sometimes we do get people phoning in from neighbouring towns to see if they can come to the Christmas lunch, and that’s really good.
“Thanks also to local businesses, because some local businesses do contribute things to it as well.”
