Paul ‘Alfie’ Harding has moved through to the B Grade Championship Semi Finals with a fast finishing victory over Todd Cowled.
In blustery winds and on a cool afternoon for the first day of Summer, there were highs and lows for both players up until the seventeenth end. At 12 shots each, Paul then scored 1×2 and 2×3 to blow the score away from Todd who was left in his wake, final score 25-16.
Alf now plays Wayne Ford to see who progresses to the Final.
Wednesday 3rd December Social Bowls
Graeme Dennis and Brian Driscoll came from 13-21 down to narrowly defeat Geoff Hillier and Des Guthrie 25-24. They scored two 3’s on the last two ends!
Jan Roberts and Di Olds came back from 10-21 after fifteen ends and held the mat all the way home defeating Rocky Ford and Kerry Ryan 26-21. Ed Brown and Brian Gibson (Harden) defeated Bob Gay and Anthony Dawson 27-21. A score of six on the fifteenth end was the difference.
Andrew Cudmore and Jan Slavin enjoyed a runaway finish after the score was 18-18 after 18, to win 31-22 against Phil Ager and Amanda K-Harding.
In the biggest margin on the day, Russell King (we found his card today) and Paul Cockram defeated John Priestley and Di Buchanan 28-16.
Minor Singles Finalists decided on weekend.
Neil Blackett has made back-to-back finals and this year he meets Paul Harding in a bid to take out this elusive championship. ‘Blackie’ was opposed against Brian Driscoll, who was gallant in defeat, not allowing the leftie to run clear. A count of four on the tenth end had Neil leading 12-7, but big ‘Hoss’, drawing consistent bowls, trailed by a single shot twice at 14-15 and 19-20. ‘Blackie’ quickly reclaimed the mat and managed to find the finish line, winning 26-20.
In Saturday’s Semi Final, Paul ‘Alfie’ Harding continued his winning run, handing the breezy conditions better than his opponent Wayne ‘Rocky’ Ford. At 7-4 after nine ends, Alf drew the maximum four shots and then added three on the very next end to lead 14-4. To Rocky’s credit, he won twelve ends out of twenty-five, all being singles. Final score 25-12.
Friday 5th December Social Bowls
On the 1st Summer Friday, being changed to a 09:30 start, 16 players enjoyed beating the heat. In the closest contest, John Priestley and Brian Driscoll earned three 3’s in four ends midway to jump clear 15-8 against Graeme Dennis and Kel Archer. After seventeen ends, GD and Kel came back and had the scoreboard read-ing 15-15. That was as far as JP and Hoss allowed them, winning 20-16.
The other games amounted to three clear wins. Carolyn Buchanan/Di Olds vs John Bell/Irene Cavanough 26-16. Russell King/John Cooper vs Bob Gay/Phil Ager 27-18. Kate Cooper/Ben Visser vs Graeme Wor-boys/Wayne Ford 28-14.
Sunday 7th December Social Bowls
A happy birthday to life member and the popular, charismatic Don O’Neill. Leading for Paul Cockram, ‘Duck’ enjoyed a great birthday with a convincing 24-11 victory over Adam New and Anthony Dawson. Dave Large and Des Guthrie were deadly in their brutal account of John Goggin and Paul Harding, showing no mercy and winning 31-14. Phil Ager, Jan Slavin and Peter McInerney led all the way against Billy Manwaring, John Bell and Di Olds winning 17-12. One great save on the thirteenth end proved massive for Phil and Co, after being down eight shots!
In the Presidents’ Day at Boorowa ExServices we were represented by Bob New, Daryl Hockey, Tony Palombi and Grady Sheather. The boys won their morning game against Boorowa Recreation Club but found the going tough in the afternoon against a strong local Boorowa Ex team.
Draw for the winners vouchers went to Don and Russ, and to John R Bell and Patto. Lucky losers keno ticket went to Brian D and the Archer.
Two more games before Christmas. Dec 16th and 23rd. No play Dec 30th (between Christmas and New Year).
When play resumes on Jan 6th, as per the unanimous vote of bowlers, green fees will be $10 with every winner receiving a voucher.
