Stockinbingal all-rounder Nick Holt again shows his class with both bat and ball in the Elimination semi final against Grenfell. Holt captured 7/37 and then top scored with 48 not out.
After scoring 96 not out in the final home and away match against Grenfell, Nick Holt has produced one of the greatest all round performances in South West Cricket Slopes Finals history
Again, on the receiving end was Grenfell in the elimination semi-final at the Stockinbingal Recreation Ground.
Holt produced a career best bowling performance capturing 7/37 from 6.4 overs as Grenfell were routed for 127 in 32.4 overs.
Holt then steadied the Stockinbingal innings with the bat, finishing with 48 not out from 66 balls as the home side scored 7/128 with 17 balls to spare.
Holt’s performance has guided his team through to the preliminary final against Cootamundra at Albert Park next Saturday.
For the first time in a month, Grenfell won the toss and batted.
After Jack Caldwell removed Grenfell opener Rohan Wilson for 20 and Darion O’Toole dismissed Riley Edwards for 8, Holt then ripped through the Grenfell batting line up capturing seven of the remaining 8 wickets.
Included in Holts’s haul was dismissing Grenfell gun batsman Henry Mitton out LBW first ball.
Scott Druett again showed his class with the bat top scoring for Grenfell making 50 from 43 balls His knock included five fours and a six.
In the qualifying semi-final at Albert Park, Temora scored an easy win over Cootamundra as the home side was routed for just 82.
Temora made easy work of the small total finishing with 3/83 in the 24th over.
The trump card for Temora was their quick Josh Gillard. The 22-year- old captured 5/21 from 6.2 overs.
The five-wicket haul by Gillard was his second five wicket haul for the season having captured 5/20 against Stockinbingal in round three.
The win by Temora sees them advance to the final Saturday week at Nixon Park one. This final at home will be a first for Temora.
James Smith top scored for Cootamundra with 21.
Cootamundra were hampered by the withdrawal two key senior players, Joel Pearson and Josh Purtell, both integral senior players.
Both matches in B grade semi-finals were played at Nixon Park.
In the qualifying final at Nixon Park 2, Burrangong thrashed the Temora Renegades by 120 runs.
The B grade favourites for the premiership Burrangong, scored 9/211 and then dismissed the Renegades for 91 in 30.2 overs.
Burrangong opener Geoff Palmer top scored with 48.
Renegades were best served by two of their youngsters in Charlie Watson and Harry Swanston. Watson top scored with 36 while 14- year-old Swanston 27.
In the elimination semi-final at Nixon Park one, Cootamundra scored an easy five wicket win over the Temora Bowling Club Tigers.
Batting first the home side made their second lowest score of the day being bowled out for 88 in the 34th over. Cootamundra replied with 5/90.
Richie Potter top scored for the Tigers with 33.
With the ball, quick Ben Piffero continued his great form capturing 4/11. He has been very good the last three matches. In those three outings he has captured 12/43.
For the Tigers, a disappointing end of the season losing the last three matches.
While for Cootamundra, it is completely the opposite, winning the last three matches.
The C grade qualifying final at Tim Doolan Oval saw another upset as the home side Harden were beaten by the Temora Leprechauns.
The Leprechauns scored 133 then bowled out Harden for 120.
The defeat of Harden, the Renegades and Cootamundra mean that all three minor premiers were defeated on week one of the finals.
The elimination semi -final, Boorowa has forfeited to Criterion Bin Chickens.
The forfeit was brought about by most of the Boorowa players being school kids who were away on a school excursion.
