Wallendbeen Campdraft Returns Following Bridge Construction Closures

Held from April 2 to 5, the Wallendbeen Campdraft weekend promises to be an excellent Easter getaway for all.

Host and organiser, Andrew Sheridan, says they will use around 1,500 cattle over the course of the weekend.

“The open event will be one of the bigger paying open campdrafts in Southern Australia,” he says.
“We will attract competitors from northern Queensland all the way down the eastern seaboard to southern Victoria.”

Local bridge construction has shut down the event for the last few years, and Andrew says he is excited to return.

“We have had a huge showing of support from businesses coming on board through sponsorship,” he says.

“We’re kind of hoping to raise money to give those local charities we support, and a couple of new ones in the pipeline as well, that are in need of some help.”

This year, the event is sponsored by Australian Meat Group (AMG) as their major sponsor.

“We are delighted… They are an asset to livestock producers in the region,” says Andrew.
“A lot of our cattle donors are suppliers of AMG.

“Nathan Sheahan, who is the livestock buyer for AMG, has been a lot of help to us as well.”

MGI (a financial service in Sydney) and Holihan Ag round out their sponsors in platinum.

This year will also feature a VIP area for families, where the Easter Bunny is expected to make an appearance.

“We will have all the usual stuff, but there will also be some trade stalls this year as well,” says Andrew.

Prize money in the major open will pay back more than $25,000.

“We have had a huge amount of support, but it’s obviously a lot of work to run and Emma and I probably contemplated not running it, but now we are full steam, we are into it and getting organised,” he says.

“With AMG’s support, that will cover the toilets and a lot of the other costs.

“If we don’t have to use our entry money to cover the toilets and stuff… it allows more money to be able to go to the charities.”

More than 25 people attended the committee meeting and Andrew says they are still open to any other business that may want to participate with prizes or as a sponsor.

“Saturday afternoon is the feature day, [where we will be] having the finals,” he says.

“We’re actually planning a bit of a novelty this year which will be announced soon.”
