Residents across the Cootamundra electorate are being encouraged to wear orange
next Wednesday as part of Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW Day), a national
campaign recognising the dedication of State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers.
Held during National Volunteer Week, WOW Day celebrates the thousands of SES
volunteers who respond to emergencies, including storms, floods, road crashes and
rescues across New South Wales.
Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke, said WOW Day is an opportunity for
communities to publicly thank the volunteers who regularly step forward during times
of crisis.
“SES volunteers are often the first people communities turn to during emergencies,
and their commitment to helping others is extraordinary,” Ms Cooke said.
“Across the Cootamundra electorate, volunteers give up their time with family, leave
work at a moment’s notice and respond in difficult conditions to keep people safe.
“Whether it’s assisting during severe weather events, helping motorists, conducting
rescues or supporting communities through floods, their contribution cannot be
overstated.”
Ms Cooke encouraged schools, businesses, sporting clubs and community groups to
take part by wearing orange and sharing their support for local SES volunteers.
“Wearing orange is a simple but meaningful way for our communities to say thank
you,” she said.
“I encourage everyone across the electorate to get involved and recognise the
incredible volunteers who work tirelessly to protect our towns and communities.”
