Originally hailing from the coastal town of Port Macquarie, the singer/songwriter followed a well-trodden path to stardom: the busking route. Reminiscent of origin stories from household names, such as Ed Sheeran or Vance Joy, Patrick honed his craft on the streets of Sydney. His big break came when acclaimed indie-folk group Boy & Bear took notice. They invited him to open for them on their biggest national Australian tour and introduced his heavy-hearted lyrics and stirring harmonies to hundreds of thousands of fans.
Dubbed by some as “Australia’s answer to James Bay,” Patrick quickly proved his staying power. His haunting cover of The Church’s classic “Under The Milky Way” was picked up by the Australian TV drama Wonderland, broadcasting his voice to millions across 12 different countries.
For over a decade, Patrick James has been the definition of a “musician’s musician.” He has sold out headline tours in Australia and New Zealand multiple times and built a discography that includes six EPs and a full-length record. His 2022 release, I’ll Take Care of Myself, If You Take Care of Yourself, drew critical acclaim, with Atwood Magazine calling it “bold and beautifully timeless”. Most recently, in 2024, he released his third album Glory Days, blending indie-folk with pop sensibilities, featuring the reflective singles “Norway” and “On My Way”.
Patrick remains a relentless live performer.
