The Coota Blues recorded their 7th win of the 2026 season with a very hard fought victory over the ADFA Rams at RMC Oval last Saturday.
The match was an arm wrestle all day with the Blues only able to break away in the final term to record a 13 point win. The final scores were Cootamundra 12 – 6 – 78 to ADFA 10 – 5 – 65. The Blues trailed by one point at quarter time, five points at half time and six points at three quarter time but lifted in the final term kicking 3 goals and keeping the Rams goalless.
In form full forward Joel Pearson was again a standout kicking half of the Blues major scores to finish the match with 6 goals with his outstanding accuracy a highlight. The match was a very physical affair with the Blues looking very fluent at times and moving the ball well and at other times struggling to be clean at the contest and making too many fundamental errors.
The Blues suffered a major setback midway through the first quarter with star Centre Half Forward Dan Conway suffering an ankle injury that saw him take no further part in the game.
Conway had been a major factor in a blistering Blues start that saw three goals kicked in 7 minutes and his loss saw a massive change in the momentum of the game. The Blues found an ace in ruckman Jake Rodwell who played easily his best game for the Club contributing with a massive work rate and kicking a crucial clutch goal. Captain Jacob Tiernan was again a great 4 quarter contributor roaming far and wide to gain a mountain of possession and stood tall late in the contest when the game was on the line.
Other major contributions came from Ben Rose both on ball and up forward, Flynn Sierant, Sean Regan and Matt Knagge down back and Doug Arthur who played a number of roles on the day.
On ballers James Warwick and Jay Pennay whilst not at their absolute best were also important contributors and Jordan McMaster and Sam Crozier did plenty of good things.
