Coota’s 150th Meeting To Be Celebrated

The Cootamundra Turf Club will be holding their 150th race meet on
Sunday October 4th on the October long weekend.
The Times caught up with Jeff Bristow ahead of the planned full TAB meeting. “We are looking on track to hopefully have a good meeting. Everyone has been working very hard, so it has been good. Just got to hope that the weather’s fine.”

“It is the one TAB meeting we have for the year and the picnic day is held in April.
“Our meeting is held on Sunday, 4th October, same day as the NRL Grand Final, so we get everyone off the course by 6pm after the last race and everybody can go and watch the footy then.

“Being a TAB meeting, we will have eight races. We’ve got six major sponsored races, and then we are going to have two memorial races.

“The Memorial races are the Stewart and Trish Anderson. The other is the Bill and Lurl Perry Memorial.
This year the feature race is the Riverina Ford Cootamundra Cup.

“The course is looking good. We have been fortunate during the winter with all the good rain we got. It has kept it really looking good.
“Gates will open at 11am. The bar opens at 12 and there’s a courtesy bus as well, which will pick people up from the post office. And they will drop them off after the last race. It will make a few runs.

“This year is our 150th Coota Cup. It was formed by a fellow called John Barnes. Our grandstand was renamed the John Barnes grandstand.”
More to come.
