Community feedback sought on future of Wallendbeen Public School

Parents and carers with children aged 0–10 are being asked to register their interest in enrolling at Wallendbeen Public School as the NSW Department of Education assesses long-term demand for the small rural school. The school is currently in recess and feedback is imperative so that the community can let the department know their feelings on the issue.

In a letter dated September 2026, Carolynne Merchant, Director of Educational Leadership for the Temora Principals Network, said the department is gathering information to help determine the school’s future direction. Officials want to understand how many local families would send their children to Wallendbeen Public School over the next five years if it was to remain operational.

“The Department of Education is currently collecting information to determine the future direction for Wallendbeen Public School,” the letter states. “To do this we are determining the demands from the local community to send their children to Wallendbeen Public School over the next 5 years.”

Anyone who has a child in the 0–10 age group and thinks they would or might enrol them at the school is asked to contact Narelle Lovell on 6937 3813 before Friday 16 October 2026. The same number can be used to arrange a conversation about personal circumstances or any questions.

The consultation forms part of the department’s broader planning for public schools in the area. Families are strongly encouraged to respond promptly so their views can be included in the assessment.
