3 major awards were handed out to members of the community on Australia Day. Their profiles are as follows and read out on Australia Day. Our Coota 2021 Citizen of the year is a much admired, volunteer firefighter with the Cootamundra HQ RFS Brigade. With many years experience, he has gave up countless hours, days and weeks volunteering during the 2019/20 bush fire season to ensure the safety and protection of others… in excess of 80 days at various major fires across NSW and QLD, through the devastation we all remember from that period. 16 deployments in our LGA alone. His dedication and perseverance resulted in the preservation of numerous properties, wildlife and indeed members of our community. The gentleman not only attends fires and events but he is also more than happy to assist with the more mundane tasks of being such an important team member. He is always on hand to clean the brigade shed and trucks and ensure stock supplies are maintained. For his volunteer role in the 2019/2020 Bush Fire Season he received the NSW Premiers Bushfire Emergency Citation. This is an area close to all of our hearts.. please stand and congratulate our Citizen of the Year…. Mr Bruce Smith
