Kristen Byrne and Lauren Connell have jumped on board again to coach the Cootamundra Bullettes League Tag side ahead of the 2024 season.
After taking the side through to a first Grand Final appearance in the 2023 George Tooke Shield, Byrne and Connell will look to go one step further next year with a group no doubt hungrier than ever for a premiership.
Whilst Byrne celebrated her 150th game for the club during the 2023 season, 2024 could also provide Connell with a personal achievement as she closes in on 100 club games, and Cootamundra Bulldogs and Bullettes President Stephen Howse was thrilled to have the co-coaches back on deck.
“It’s a great appointment and a really positive step as they are so well-respected,” Howse said.
“Especially with the job they did last year; they made the Grand Final, and we had three juniors come through, which is great for the future.”
“We are going to lose a couple of players next year, but we’re hoping to secure some of the juniors coming through from the successful under-16s team.
“It would be great to get another three or four through this year, and if we can, and with Kristen and Lauren coaching, it is all very positive for the club.
The progression of juniors into the senior ranks has been a focus for the Bullettes in recent years, highlighting the game’s strength in Cootamundra.
With their coaches locked away, the Bullettes will enjoy their summer break before taking to the training paddock again in late January in a bid to complete some unfinished business.
The Times will have more on this appointment, including an interview with Byrne and Connell, in next week’s edition.
