Cocaine and $23,000 seized near Wallendbeen

The driver of a white Toyota Hilux near Wallendbeen was stopped.

Around 12.30pm yesterday, officers from the Cootamundra Police Station stopped a driver of a white Toyota Hilux on Burley Griffin Way, near the intersection of Wallendbeen for the purpose of a random breath test.

The driver returned a negative reading and their vehicle was then searched by police where a sum of money has been located, an amount of cocaine as well as other e-cigarette materials.

At this stage it is believed an amount of 9 grams of cocaine has been found.

All items seized will undergo forensic examination.

Following inquiries, a 47-year-old passenger was arrested and taken to Cootamundra Police Station.

He was then arrested, transported to Cootamundra Police Station where he was charged with supply prohibited drug, deal with property proceeds of crime, and possess prescribed restricted substance.

Officer In-charge of the Cootamundra Gundagai Police Station, Chief Inspector Frank Brown said yesterday’s charges was an example of good policing work in the Riverina.

“The police work that was undertaken by Cootamundra officers was great work and good detection of illegal drugs and other items,” he said.

“It’s great police work as police were able to intercept and stop an amount of drugs before it was able to be sold onto other persons. Vaping material has also been removed from the street.

“This is a message to the community that if you are going to transport illegal items, be prepared to be stopped by police who will have your vehicles searched.”

The Ingleburn man was granted strict conditional bail and is set to appear before Cootamundra Local Court on April 9, 2021.
