Coota Country Club Holds Southern NSW Family Golf Championships The Cootamundra Country Club held the 2022 Southern NSW Family Golf Championships at their course last weekend, between 19-20th March.
The Southern NSW Family Golf Championships ran over two days, from 9am Saturday morning, concluding at 4pm on Sunday afternoon. The 36-hole two-person medley over Saturday and Sunday offered over $8,000 in prizes, including a $5,000 hole-in-one purse for the fifth hole, which was sponsored by JSL Builder. Cousin’s Lachie and Josh Deep won the Leggett/Deep Shield, highlighted by an exceptional two round score of 122, averaging 61 across both days on a par 71 course.
It’s the second time 21-year-old Lachie has won the trophy, winning alongside his father, Paul, in 2015. As a prize for winning the championship, the Deep cousin’s won an all-inclusive Gold Coast golf package, including return flights, stay at the Intercontinental and obviously rounds of golf.
The winning pair can choose to use the travel vouchers at any time they please. Chris Dawe of the Cootamundra Country Club said the Southern NSW Family Gold Championships was an exceptional event.
“It blew me away; it was highly successful. We had 136 turnout, with the majority of those guys visitors from other town’s that had come far and wide,” Chris said.
“Teams from Wagga, Newcastle, South Coast, Canberra, Cowra and Orange all came out and had a great day. “
This year we brought in the initiate of the Leggett/Deep Shield, named after Rob Leggett – a life member of our club who has done a lot and the late Kevin Deep who was a fantastic member and was Lachie and Josh’s grandfather.”
Youngest member of the Cootamundra Country Club, 7-year-old Harry Schofield played alongside his father Scott at the weekend’s Southern NSW Family Championships.
Harry is the youngest member at the course with a GA handicap and loves playing golf with his dad. Family ties were checked upon entering the championships for all teams, with a legitimate family relationship required (e.g. parent, grandparent, child, spouse, cousin or in-law).
Non-family teams were able to join in playing on the days of the championships, however, weren’t eligible to win the major prize. Entry per pair cost participants $110 each.
