Golfers to converge for Coota Big Bash

Cootamundra Country Club will host their popular Coota Big Bash on the weekend of November 11 and 12, and with $4,000 worth of prizes up for grabs and the chance to meet champion jockey Jimmy ‘Pumper’ Cassidy, the event is set to attract golfers and racing fans from all over the region.

“We’ve been running the Big Bash for three or four years, and it’s getting bigger every year,” Cootamundra Country Club committee member Paul Field said. “As a committee, we wanted to do something different and get a few bums on seats and attract a few golfers from out of town, which we have. “In the past, we’ve had Les Boyd, Greg Matthews and Phil Kearns as guest speakers, and this year, it’s going to be terrific to have Jim Cassidy.” It’s a loaded weekend, with two days of golf, meaning players can get involved in the two-person ambrose on both days, which will cater for men, women, and mixed teams.

On Saturday night, dinner will see Cassidy as the guest speaker. “We’ve been lucky enough to have people support the event, and we’re expecting another good turnout,” Field said. “It will be 18 holes both days and on Saturday, players can book their own tee times from 7am to 1pm and then enjoy dinner that night. “Sunday is a shotgun start between 8.30 am and 9.30 am, and that way, we can get finished up at around the same time and have our presentations done for those who are travelling.”

The Coota Big Bash will bring people into town, and Field explained that it was open to anyone, even if golf isn’t their game. “We’re a little county town, and we’re trying to keep our little organisation afloat, and this is a way for us to make some money, and it will be great for the town, with people spending money on accommodation and everything,” Field said. “The other thing we want to emphasise is that you don’t have to play golf if you don’t want to, and if you just want to come to our dinner and listen to Jimmy Cassidy, you can. “Either way, it’s going to be a big weekend, and we’re really looking forward to it.”

To play across both days, it’s $90 per person or $140 if you want dinner on Saturday night included. Sponsoring the event are the Bush Chemist, Central Hotel, Delta Agribusiness, Graeme Cheshire’s Golf Shop, and Cootamundra Country Club.
