Hume Group Celebrating CWA’s 100 Years in NSW!

After some very welcome rain, the sun shone as Hume Group members and guests met at the Illabo Showground Hall for a celebratory lunch.

The lunch was held to celebrate 100 years of CWA in NSW and also Hume Group 90 years.The 20th April was the day CWA was formed 100 years ago.

President Jenny Birtles welcomed guests, Ann Adams OAM, State Vice President ; Judy Houghton, Hume Group members and guests met at the Illabo Showground Hall for a celebratory lunch.

The lunch was held to celebrate 100 years of CWA in NSW Standing, Maxine Hayes, Gundagai branch with Diane McKenzie, Cootamundra branch.

State Vice President from Central Western Group, Margaret Smith AO, a former State President and a past member of Wallendbeen branch, and Riverina Group President, Carol Grylls and CWA members.

After some very welcome rain, the sun shone. Jenny thanked the Illabo members who assisted with the preparations, the flowers were done by Jude Hillam, Marlene Clark from Kikoira branch, who made the 100 year celebratory cake, Sue Woodward , Eurongilly branch who made the table decorations, which depicted the ideals of CWA. Hats and gloves for “Pride in our Past” and Pearls for” Faith in our future”.

A telegram was read from Ann Adams congratulating Hume Group on 90 years of service to the community and 100 years in NSW. Jenny also told members they will have to work harder to stay relevant, so that CWA can continue our good work for another 100 years.

Margaret Smith AO, before saying grace, commented how fortunate we are in these troubled times to be able to meet together in friendship and strong faith.

Margaret later congratulated Hume Group, commenting Hume Group is a leading group in the State.

Hume Group has been a learning ground for many members, who have progressed to higher positions in CWA. Margaret mentioned the late Muriel Commens, and her daughter in law Gail Commens, as well as earlier past members.

Margaret said “Be proud of what you do and have done.”

She congratulated Jenny as President and commented “how nice it was to catch up with the Wallendbeen girls.

Hume Group Patrons , Margaret Smith , Bellarwi branch and Sue Woodward Eurongilly branch cut the cake, and this was distributed to all in attendance. A final thought, “ A good friend is like a four-leaf clover; hard to find and lucky to have,”.
