Cootamundra Bulldogs captain-coach Jordyn Ballard has been awarded the Gavin Miller Medal for the best and fairest player in the George Tooke Shield.
Ballard was a standout for his side throughout their debut season in the Canberra-based competition, a constant attacking threat being such a strong carrier of the ball while his defence gave opposing teams nightmares, especially those who had game plans to target halves.
Thriving with the addition of extra responsibility and the leadership that comes with being the team’s captain, Ballard’s respect toward referees along with his point scoring feats which included 12 tries and 31 goals, ensured he would be a popular pick each week for those deciding the 3-2-1 allocation of best and fairest points.
The fact the Bulldogs were able to win nine of their twelve matches would have also aided Ballard’s cause, while on the flip side, Ballard’s performances were a big reason Cootamundra were able to be so successful.
Ballard’s tally of tries and goals saw him finish the season with 110 points, also handing him the competition’s top point scorer award.
The recognition of his fantastic season provides a bittersweet finish to Rugby League in 2021 for Jordyn, Ballard would without a doubt trade both newly crowned gong’s in for the chance at a finals appearance that the Bulldogs faithful have been so desperately craving.
