Longest Day of Golf is on at the Cootamundra Club this Sunday December 4th, with golfers doing their best to get in as many rounds as they can from dusk till dawn.
Golfers will attempt to play 72 holes in a single day to raise fund for the Cancer Council.
The Longest Day of Golf is a challenge that raises funds for the Cancer Council’s research, prevention and support services.
Not everyone has to play 72 holes and the club encourages everyone to do as many holes as they can.
Graeme Cheshire, Dave Earnshaw, Ben O’Loughlin and Lyal Twyford participated in the four-round, 72-hole day of golf and raised over $7000 in donations last year and intend to do the same this year.
Six other golfers played 36 holes, while some players played one round of 18 holes last year. Graeme and his team are starting at 5:30am and are very excited for their 72 holes this weekend.
“We’ve got very lucky, we’ve got some good sponsors behind us, not only in donations, but in per birdie we have in the 72 holes,” said Graeme.
Hoping to smash through their $7000 total from last year, they’ll need more than their 27 birdies in their 72 holes from last year.
“The weather’s been pretty terrible lately, however, this recent sun will have dried out the course.
The boys and the Golf Club and their volunteers have done a fantastic job. It is in good nick for sure.”
Graeme invites all golfers and non golfers to come down, saying, “anybody else who would like to come and support us is welcome.
We will be having a drink after for anyone who wants to come along and make a donation or just watch the day’s play, they’re quite welcome.
I’d just like to thank everybody who makes a donation and sponsors, It’s a fantastic effort.”
