Arson Unit detectives say they have charged a man following an investigation into the destruction of Coolac service station after it went up in flames in September.
About 10:00 pm on Tuesday 5 September 2023, emergency services were called to a service station on Coolac Road in Coolac, next to Gundagai.
Police NSW said, “Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze, which caused extensive damage to the property. There were no reports of injuries.
“Officers attached to Riverina Police District established a crime scene and commenced inquiries before State Crime Command’s Financial Crimes Squad Arson Unit took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Dosed.
“Following inquiries by Strike Force detectives, about 9:40 am [on Wednesday], a 42-year-old man was arrested at Narellan Police Station.”
Police NSW say he was charged with destroying or damaging property by fire.
The man was refused bail and appeared at Picton Local Court on Wednesday where bail was formally refused. He will appear before Cootamundra Local Court on Monday 18 December 2023.
Police say the investigation continues.
