Emma Muller from Cootamundra’s Horizon United Group was recognised as the ‘2021 NSW Regional Woman of the Year’ at the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Awards for Excellence in Sydney on February 23.
The award recognises the contribution and achievements of women in construction in rural, regional, or remote areas of New South Wales.
This award celebrates women who have made a substantial contribution to the industry while being regionally based.
Contributions extend to leadership, sustainability, construction, design, safety and innovation.
Hailing from Illabo, Managing Director of Horizon United Group, Emma said she was extremely proud to have received the award. Emma is a mother of three and is the daughter of former Cootamundra-Gundagai Deputy Mayor Dennis Palmer and his wife Frances.
“I am humbled to be recognised in the industry for my work, to live and operate for a small regional community like Illabo just proves location is no limit anymore,” she said.
There were three finalists on the night for the 2021 NSW Regional Woman of the Year category.
Emma travelled from Illabo up to Sydney for the formal gala ball.
The annual NAWIC NSW Awards for Excellence celebrates the contributions made by women at all career levels, and in all sectors of the construction industry.
It is an opportunity to showcase industry advancements and achievements of women, and for women, in the construction industry.
All awards are judged by a panel of industry leaders, who volunteer their time to support the cause.
Emma is excited by the work Horizon United Group has already completed and future projects which are coming up in 2022.
“We’re getting a lot of businesses growing regionally and also locally which is promising,” she said.
“We’re partnering with the likes of the Martinus Rail bid, so we are getting bigger with our projects but also staying locally based.”
