Murrumbidgee Region Records First COVID-19 Case in Over a Year

It has been over a year since the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) recorded of community transmitted COVID-19.

Overnight two cases were recorded in Albury with MLHD stating that urgent contact tracing is underway in a statement made earlier today.

“Both cases are residents from the Albury LGA. One is being cared for in Victoria and the other is isolating in Albury.” The statement read.

At this stage it is unclear where or how the people contracted the virus or whether they are linked to either the Sydney or Melbourne outbreaks.

Walk-in clinics are currently in operation at Lavington Hall and Albury Showground.

Two drive through clinics are operating in Wagga Wagga with appointments also available at the Murray Street testing clinic.

Authorities believe they may have found a case connected to the positive detection of the virus in Young.

An essential worker who was in Wagga Wagga from August 30 to September 3 and also in Young from September 3 to September 7 recently tested positive to COVID-19.

Today NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant  confirmed the person who spent time in Young, Wagga Wagga as well as Mudgee while infectious had been identified.

“I call upon all of those communities to be vigilant for symptoms, and the NSW Health website will be updated with contact and exposure venues.”

Walk-in testing is underway at the Young Town Hall until 4pm today.
