Punters Prepare For Picnics

Country Picnic Races return to Coota this Saturday with perfect weather set down for the event and a special vibe permeating the town after Covid has seen many bush meetings abandoned until recently.

Gates will open at 12 alongside the bar before music commences at 12:30pm. Fashions on the field will be a highlight this year for the 113th running of the races, with Canberra based Stephanie Wong Judging. Fashions on the field will be held between the 3rd and 4th race.

President Di Williams said, “We are putting it up a notch and have put on our page the right things to wear including the gloves and the hats.” The committee is encouraging people to arrive in plenty of time as Covid registrations must take place This can be done with a QR code or by signing in. Di said, “The course is looking beautiful, Richie has got it looking magnificent out there. There’s 4 marquees and lots of tables booked. There has been a lot of talk around town and lots of people are coming home for it, there has been a lot of interest.” The track is a soft 5 but with no rain expected an upgrade to a good 4 looks possible. Di said, “Come and enjoy it, make the most of what we have to offer as a town and the races and the race course, get a bit of fresh air, it will be a great meeting.”

The turf club runs a separate Tab style meeting in October each year for a total of 2 meetings one in a picnic format and one televised and with country tab prize money.

Get out and support the Coota races and a great bunch of volunteers who have worked tirelessly to put the event on. More details can be found on the Cootamundra Picnics Facebook page.
