A 24-year-old man has been arrested and will face court with several offences following a house fire on Adams Street in Cootamundra.
At 10.00pm on Sunday, 30 August, emergency services were called to a fire at the residence.
Fire and Rescue NSW responded and were able to extinguish the fire. Thankfully, no one was injured.
At this point, the fire had caused extensive damage.
Police officers from the Riverina Police District responded and began to inquire after the incident.
At 11.15am on Monday, 31 August, a 24-year-old man was arrested and taken to the Cootamundra Police Station. It is believed the man was known to the occupants of the home.
The 24-year-old man has since been charged with ten offences, including:
- Damage property by fire/exp greater than $15000,
- Destroy or damage property less than or equal to $2000,
- Destroy or damage property greater than $2000 and less than or equal to $5000,
- Cause or set fire to the property of another,
- Armed within intent to commit indictable offence,
- Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm,
- Set on, urge dog to attack, bite etc,
- Use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle,
- Unlawfully possess number plates,
- Custody of knife in public place.
The man was refused bail and appeared in Bail Division Court on Tuesday, 1 September, where he was formally refused bail.
