As of September 1, 2026, NSW drivers can expect to pay $100 less when registering their privately owned vehicle as a new discount is being rolled out across the state.
Motorcyclists will not be exempt, and are expected to pay $80 less for their rego.
The new discount is expected to benefit the owners of more than 4.4 million vehicles across state. The initiative was created due to the ongoing cost-of-living crisis affecting everyday Australians.
In September alone, there is an approximate 360,000 light vehicles that are due to registration renewal.
For anyone who recently paid for their rego in July or August, the discount will be applied when their registration is renewed in 2027.
Minister for Roads and Regional Transport, Jenny Aitchison, said, “We know it’s not cheap to get from A to B, which is why we’re making sure drivers, motorcyclists and commuters on public transport can save some of their hard-earned money.”
“Our registration discount is automatically applied, meaning there’s no homework, just savings, so families can spend money on their loved ones instead.”
Eligible motorists within NSW will not need to lift a finger to receive the discount, with it automatically applying when the owner receives a notification that their vehicle is either due for registration, registered newly into NSW or re-registered in NSW after previously sitting unregistered.
Drivers can view their registration details and switch to digital registration reminders in their MyServiceNSW account and in the Service NSW app.
